Where the Sea Meets the Story: A Soap-Making Workshop in Galway

Down by the river in Galway, just where the tide leans in to kiss the shore, there’s a little room filled with the scent of lavender, seaweed, and something older still.
You might miss it, walking past—just another building along the Wild Atlantic Way, echoing with gulls and salt air—but inside, something quiet and lovely is unfolding.
People gather—not many, just enough. Some are locals, others are drifting through the coast, pulled by a feeling they can’t quite name. And there, amongst pots of shea butter, dried seaweed, and bundles of wild herbs, they begin to make soap.
But not just soap.
This is The Moot Creative, and nothing here is ever just what it seems.
As the oils melt on the heat and oats are crushed by hand, a voice weaves through the room—sharing stories of Irish waters, of sea spirits and selkies, of wise women who once knew the secrets of soap long before it came wrapped in plastic and sold on shelves. The kind of stories passed down in kitchens and carried on the backs of wind.
Hands stir. Flowers are scattered like blessings into moulds. Laughter hums beneath the surface.
And suddenly, something very old starts to feel very close.
This is craft with a heartbeat. The kind that doesn’t rush. The kind that reminds you you’re part of something—part of a place where the land gives what it can, and we make something gentle from it in return.
When you leave, your hands will carry the scent of sea air and something sweeter. You’ll carry a bar of soap made by you—from coast-born plants and Irish lore. And maybe, too, you’ll carry a little story of your own.
